Why I love and hate Invincible... The comic
CREATED BY SERGIO TAMAYO VARGAS FOR THE ICT CLASS
I will start this assuming that you know the Invincible series on Amazon. I'm going to tell you abaout the comicso brace yourself for a crappy oppinion without much objectivity. This is all going to be a way to vent for myself.
Have you had one of those moments when you drop everything and focus reading something for hours on end? Invincible was that for me. It started slowly.
It constrasted a lot with the Amazon series. But something about it was odd in a good way. It was everything that I wanted, a story that delved deep into constructing an ample universe with interesting characters and a lot of growth, not only on the main ones but also on the secondary ones.
You see, it was fantastic, but I had the fear that everything would collapse under its own weight. However, my doubts were almost cleansed towards the end of the series... Until issue #127. That comic was a slapp on the face that turned me back into reality, the change on art styles was so radical, so like a downgrade that I felt insulted to even continue reading, regardless I did and my disappointments started to pile up.
The cracks on the story started becoming more visible due to the comic reaching its rapid conclusion. Some of the details of established characters were missing at the moment of explainint their personality changes, like Anissa. It felt rushed.
I was left to wonder if my time was well spend reading 150+ issues of this comic. I certainly do not regret it, but I wouldn't pick up the complete series again due to that horrendous turn towards the end.
